Inkford Warriors

Calling all Inkford Warriors!

Hello LHBD Families,
You may have heard about one of our LHBD family members and our #Inkfordwarrior campaign but if you haven’t, I’d like to introduce everyone to Jesse Sellers.  Jesse was one of our original LHBD friends and moved from our in-home program to our first building (now building B) when we opened in 2011.  Jesse was diagnosed in November 2019 with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and has been fighting hard to beat his cancer diagnosis and the side effects of chemotherapy.  His mom Jen, Jesse, and his amazing grandparents have spent countless hours in cancer & PICU unit at Blank Children’s Hospital receiving treatment, blood transfusions and antibiotics to counteract the effects of the treatment.   It’s been a bumpy road but Jesse is a fighter and we know he will win this battle.  He keeps his sidekick Inkford (his stuffed animal) with him at all times and he has endless support from friends and family (his warriors).

However, we need your help!  If you are a part of our original LHBD crew, if you were part of the “With love from Mary’s House” family before Jesse was there, or have ever been a part of our LHBD family, I’m asking for your support. Jesse is a warrior but I don’t want him to think for a minute that he is in this alone!  Please consider purchasing t-shirts designed and created by Jesse, our LHBD family, and the Norwalk Shop.  We would love for Jesse to see that his LHBD family is here supporting him through this journey.  If you would prefer, there is an account set up in Jesse's name at City State Bank in Norwalk and you can stop in and make a donation.  You can also mail or drop off donations at LHBD and we will make sure it gets deposited into the account.  We have posted additional information about Jesse's journey on our website- www.lilhandsbigdreams.com -or you can click on the link below to go directly to the Norwalk Shops on-line order.

I know we haven't seen some of you for a long time but you are always in our hearts and are part of our family.  Jesse has been away from LHBD for a while now but that doesn't mean he is continuously in our thoughts and prayers!

Baby it's cold outside...

Please remember your child's hats, gloves, appropriate shoes, winter coats and snow gear! The tempetures vary from day to day here which means on days that it is nice enough to get our lil's outside, we will! Please make sure your child has all their gear with them every day! Thank you!

LHBD Holiday Party

Our annual LHBD Holiday Party is a long-standing tradition that we look forward to every year. Bring the whole family to celebrate and look back on the past year with all of our families and staff.
LHBD will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Norwalk Food Pantry. If you are able to, please bring one item to the Holiday Party!

LHBD November Fundraiser

Hey there LHBD Fam!

Can you believe that we are nearing the end of 2019? Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.. OH MY! Every year the holidays slowly creep up on us and we often times get busy. This year, we tried our best to stay on top of things and get a head start on planning our end of the year fundrasier! GO US!

We have decided to team up with the Ronald McDonald House of Des Moines! One of our previous teachers, Miss Jessica, now works for RMH of DSM and is doing amazing things. We found out awhile back that they are opening a new house in downtown Des Moines and the items they will need. With that being said, we are happy to announce that we will be collecting items for the new house to deliever in December! Pillows, full-sized shampoo and conditioner, and toothbrushes and toothpaste will be the things collected in Building A at LHBD. We are so excited to team up with them and make a great donation. Please join us in our Pillow Drive and help us make those in need of a home for the holidays, feel comfortable and warm. Please see Miss Caitlin with any questions or comments! Thank you for the support and for reading!

LHBD Pumpkin Patch 2019

Happy Fall, Y'all!

What can we say? We love this time of year! It's filled with a world of wonders and imagination, and our lil's embrace just that. Starting a couple of years after we opened, we decided to bring the pumpkin patch to LHBD. With help from Ms. Pam, an LHBD original, and her father, who owns Moreland's Pumpkins, we were able to bring the patch to our center. Ms. Pam and Mr. Al pick each pumpkin by hand with our lil's in mind.

For years this has been one of the many traditions started and continued by Ms. Mary. Our lil's race through the playground to find their special pumpkin to take home. This is a moment of pure and undisturbed innocence and joy for all involved. We hope to continue this tradition and community partnership forever and will be forever grateful for these lil' moments that create big memories for everyone at LHBD.
